Introducing The Golf Girls...Ah, Ah, Ah!!!

The Golf Boys have some competition. Sophie Giquel, Cassandra Kirkland, Sophie Sandolo and Jade Schaeffer from the Ladies European Tour(LET) have created a video which mimics...steals...spoofs perhaps, the original idea of PGA funny man Ben Crane.

The ladies are dressed in similar attire and are singing basically the same song. I'm not sure if they are making fun of the original video or praising it for the complete genius of the whole thing, but I can dig it, especially if it was done for charity(At press release, I wasn't able to confirm this).

If anything it will bring a little attention to the LET. To be honest, I recognized the names but I can't say that I have ever seen this foursome hit a golf ball. After viewing the video, I looked them up and at the very least, this is what most people will do.

The LPGA had been struggling in recent years with sponsorships, and attracting viewers, but it seems as though they are moving in the right direction to bring awareness to their sport. Hopefully this video will do the same for the LET. Golf is golf and I like watching whether it be men or women playing.

We will have to wait and see whether or not there is a collaboration between the two groups. Some of the comments on youtube are calling for it. Regardless, it again proves that professional golfers are human and not as robotic as they are sometimes perceived. Sing it loud ladies. Let your roar be heard. Dex is a fan. Have a great round and always hit your target.

To be honest, the only reason I recognize Sophie Sandolo is that she was in one of the Big Break series. The other girls are new to me.

Does that mean the better-known LET players didn't have time for this... or just feared for their careers? ;-)

What I'm waiting for is the video of Yani Tseng bombing drives to the 1812 Overture.

With references as wide ranging as Monty Python and the Holy Grail to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture you are truly a well-rounded individual:-)

The main reason I heard of these ladies is because of Facebook. As I went through the four names, I realized that I was friends with all of them. Not that it means anything, but I often see their comments on my News Feed.

It takes a certain individual who is not afraid of ridicule to make a video like this, and this why I am fans of both groups.

If you're referring to the fact that 3 out of the 4 Golf Boys missed the cut at the US Open, shortly after the video came out, then I can see why some of the ladies on the LET might have been a little apprehensive if approached with such a project. Maybe they thought they might jinx themselves if they participated.

You only live once, and it should be filled with as much fun as possible. Life is so much more than a golf score and I think that both groups understand that.

As far as Ms. Tseng is concerned, I am a total fan. She makes the game look so easy and it appears that she has a lot of fun. I guess that comes from winning a lot.

I watched the final two rounds, and I can't find a weakness. I would love to have her game. I wonder if she has ever thought about teeing it up with the guys? Annika did it. So did Michelle, and I'm sure Lorena contemplated it. Personally, I think she would do well if she were able to handle the media hype that comes with such a decision. If she keeps this up, she going to need new challenges.

I was just thinking about the LET not being taken seriously. Think about it: It's one thing to make a funny video when you're on the "big tour" and have a reputation for being nuts. When your tour is considered a "second tier" organization (an unfair characterization, but it is how the LET is often perceived in comparison to the LPGA), I think many of the better-known LET players may have felt it would do more harm than good to their image.

In fact, the reason I posted the Golf Boys was simply because it was the newest Ben Crane video, and I didn't post the Golf Girls because, as you pointed out, it wasn't even clear whether they were poking fun at the video or just copying it.

Personally, I think the girls should have taken more of a Spice Girls approach -- do a really upbeat dance number and go for a glamorous look. I suppose you could compare this to Bananarama -- a great 1980s group, in case you don't recognize the name -- but it's too much like the Golf Boys to really stand out. They could have approached this as a competition between the boys and the girls, and one-upped the boys. That would have gotten them some serious attention!

BTW, I don't believe Yani's thinking about the guys at all right now. Annika didn't until she was several years into her "reign" and had clearly proven her dominance... and then it was for personal reasons rather than a desire to take on the guys.

We're still in the first phase of the Tseng Dynasty. I'll be surprised if she lets her focus waver from women's golf anytime soon.

If I were her, I would focus on the LPGA as well. She has a chance to set all kinds of records if she decides to have a full career. Recent history shows the top player leaving the game during their prime. It will be interesting to see if she can stay motivated if she continues to decimate the field on a regular basis.

I heard that Yani said she wanted to leave when she was on top, so that would indicate she doesn't intend to play forever like Juli Inkster. (My hero on the LPGA, btw.) But since Annika is her mentor rather than Lorena, and since you have to play at least 10 years on the LPGA to qualify for the World Golf Hall of Fame, I don't see Yani quitting before she plays at least 10 years. I think she's driven to succeed more than either Annika or Lorena were.

I'm hoping she'll decide to take a page out of Juli's book and play much longer. If Yani stays healthy, she could be a force for quite a long time.
