Five time Major winner Seve Ballesteros passed away today at the age of 54. His family released a statement yesterday that his conditioned had deteriorated significantly, and when I woke up this morning, I found out, along with the rest of the golf world, that he was no longer with us physically. From the way everyone is talking, however, he will always be with us.
I never had a chance to see Seve play a live event. He played during a time when I had no interest in the game of golf, but from what I have heard, he was Phil Mickelson before Phil Mickelson. He made the game of golf cool before Tiger made the game cool. He was the guy that everyone wanted to be like.
As I am watching the coverage of the Wells Fargo Championship, it is evident that Seve had a huge impact on European golf. He was a Ryder Cup hero who inspired everyone around him with his passion and love for competition. Many of the young guys on both the American and especially the European Tour say Seve was the guy. He had charisma and the game to back it up.
Like I said, I ever had a chance to see Seve play, so while I watch the tournament, I will be browsing youtube for his videos. From what I've heard, he was a feel player. A magician with a club in his hands. I want to be that feel player and I'm sure that I can learn a lot from him. Thanks for living your life to the fullest Seve. The game is better because of it.
Have a great round and always hit your target.
